Belgrade Baroque

The Belgrade Baroque music ensemble was founded in 2003 by violinist Predrag Novović (SWE/SER) and a group of students who had been actively participating in Novović’s baroque music workshops at the Josip Slavenski music school and the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade. Ever since, Belgrade Baroque has consisted of musicians interested in historically-informed performance practice of 17th and 18th century music, playing period instruments, and as such, is one of the first ensembles of its kind in Serbia.

The ensemble has worked with a number of renowned musicians from the domain of early music and has held successful concerts both in Serbia and abroad, also appearing on festivals and Summer seasons such as Baroque Music Days Novi Sad, Belgrade Summer Festival (BELEF), Belgrade International Harpsichord Festival, Early Music Festival in Belgrade, International Review of Composers Belgrade, Vršac International Chamber Music Festival, Austria Barock Akademie - Gmunden, Salzkammergut Festwochen (AT), Timisoara Early Music Festival (RO), Confidancen Theatre, Urliksdal (SWE), Wonderfeel (NL), etc.

Belgrade Baroque performs intensively in Serbia, and has successfully realized many projects with the support of Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information, City of Belgrade, Serbian Music Author's Agency (SOKOJ), and through cooperation with various cultural institutions. Serbian baroque music stands out as a unique artistic project that presents collaboration between Belgrade Baroque and contemporary Serbian composers. It is the first project in Serbia that initiates music creation for an music ensemble devoted to the historically-informed performance practice.

Belgrade Baroque continuously strives to contribute to the better understanding of historically-informed performance practice of music, music education, widening of music audience and increased interest for artistic music in general. In this respect, several thousands of children all over Serbia have enjoyed performances of original music show called Baroque Fairytale, and since 2018 the ensemble has re-established the Baroque Workshop in cooperation with Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade and Josip Slavenski music school.
